Mother’s Day Through a Wider Lens

Mother’s Day is a day we pause to celebrate love.

The kind of love that shows up daily, quiet, steady, sacrificial. We honor mothers, grandmothers, and caregivers who nurture and guide children in ways that shape their entire lives. This love is a gift. And we’re grateful for it.

But as we celebrate, it’s worth pausing to ask: what does Mother’s Day look like for every child?

A Love That Looks Different Around the World

For some, Mother’s Day is filled with joy and connection. For others, it carries complexity.

There are children growing up without the stability of a consistent caregiver. There are mothers who love their children deeply but lack the support or resources needed to care for them fully. And there are women — teachers, community caregivers, house mothers — who step in each day to offer children something steady and warm, even when it isn’t theirs to give by birth.

At Lifesong Zambia schools, educators and caregivers show up every morning for children who need more than a lesson.

They offer presence, consistency, and the kind of maternal steadiness that many of these children might not experience anywhere else.

Love is present — often in the most unexpected places. But it needs support to flourish.

“A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. God sets the lonely in families.” — Psalm 68:5-6

We don’t take credit for what we’ve seen. We’re grateful to play a small part in what God is doing in the lives of children and families. He is the one who places the lonely in families, who calls us to care for the vulnerable, and who uses people like you to do extraordinary things in children’s lives.

Holding Celebration and Awareness Together

We celebrate the women who love faithfully.

And we remain aware that love alone, without support, can be stretched thin. That’s why caring for children also means investing in families, communities, and opportunities that help them thrive, not just today, but for a lifetime.

This Mother’s Day, as you celebrate the women who have shaped your life, consider joining us in caring for children who are still waiting for that kind of steady love. Whether through child sponsorship, prayer, or simply sharing our mission with someone you know — every act of support helps a family flourish.

Because every child is made in the image of God. And every family deserves the chance to thrive.

Considering Adoption? You don’t have to figure it out alone.
